Veterinary Technician Continuing Education
In order to best serve the citizens of Idaho and their animals, each certified veterinary technician is required to complete a minimum of fourteen (14) hours of ongoing continuing education in the field of veterinary technology in each and every two (2) year certification period following the date of certification. A maximum of four (4) credit hours of continuing education in practice management may be used toward the fulfillment of the CE requirement. A maximum of ten (10) credits may be earned in RACE-approved online courses. One (1) credit hour will be given for each fifty (50) minutes actually spent by the active member in attendance at an accredited, domestic or foreign course. No credit will be given for:
- time spent in introductory remarks, coffee and lunch breaks, business meetings, or other activities not involving the educational aspects of the course
- any course attended before admission to practice veterinary technology in Idaho
- journal and magazine articles, videos, or correspondence courses, unless specially approved by the Board
In cases of panel presentations, credit will be calculated by multiplying the actual number of course hours by two (2) and dividing by the number of panel members involved. No credit for attending approved courses in continuing veterinary technician education may be applied to any reporting period other than that during which the credit is actually earned.
Approved courses include those courses and providers listed on the American Association of Veterinary State Board’s Registry of Approved Continuing Education, and those courses and providers approved by the Board. Board pre-approval for a continuing education course may be obtained by sending a completed CE APPROVAL FORM_FILLABLE to the Board office. Copies of the sign-in sheets for each pre-approved course are to be supplied to the Board office following completion of the course.
